Frequently
Asked
Questions

Can counselling help if I live with lupus or a chronic illness?

Yes. Living with lupus or a chronic illness can impact more than just physical health. Many people experience fatigue, emotional exhaustion, grief, frustration, or feeling misunderstood. Counselling can provide a supportive space to talk openly about these experiences and develop ways to cope with the emotional challenges of chronic illness.

Do you specialise in counselling for lupus?

Yes. I have both professional training as a counsellor and personal lived experience with lupus. This means I understand many of the invisible challenges that can come with chronic illness, including fatigue, flare-ups, identity changes, and the emotional impact of living with an unpredictable condition.

What can counselling help with, when living with chronic illness?

Counselling can support you with:

  • Coping with chronic fatigue and stress

  • Managing the emotional impact of lupus or chronic illness

  • Processing grief around life changes

  • Navigating relationships and feeling misunderstood

  • Adjusting to identity changes after diagnosis

  • Finding ways to care for your mental and emotional wellbeing

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes. I offer online counselling sessions, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your own home. Online therapy can be especially helpful for people living with chronic illness or fatigue, as it removes the need for travel.

Do I need to have lupus to work with you?

Not at all. While I have a strong focus on supporting people living with lupus and chronic illness, I also work with people experiencing anxiety, stress, life transitions, and other emotional challenges.

What happens in a counselling session?

Counselling sessions are a safe and confidential space where you can talk about what you are experiencing at your own pace. Together we explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences while working towards greater understanding, self-compassion, and practical ways to support your wellbeing.

How many Counselling Sessions do I need?

Everyone’s healing journey is deeply personal and unique. There’s no set timeline, no magic number of sessions that works for everyone, and that’s completely okay. Healing isn’t linear, and it doesn’t happen overnight. The number of sessions you might need depends entirely on where you’re starting from, what you’ve been through, and how you respond to the process.

Is my information kept private?

Everything we discuss in our sessions is treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality. Your personal information is protected under the Australian Privacy Act 2024.

There are a few rare situations where I am legally required to share information, such as if there’s a serious risk of harm to you or someone else or requested by law —but I will explain all of this clearly at the beginning of our first session, so you know exactly what to expect.

I aim to create a safe, trusting space where you feel heard and supported.

What forms of payment are available?

An invoice will be sent to you via Stripe, a secure online payment platform, before your session. Please note that payment is required in advance to confirm your booking.

What if I have to cancel my appointment?

I kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to change or cancel your appointment. Please note that the full session fee will be charged if less notice is given. Thank you for understanding!
